Relebohile Mofokeng ran the show as Bafana Bafana demolished Eritrea 5-0 in their AFCON 2027 qualifier.

RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG RUNS THE SHOW
Mofokeng opened the scoring in the 19th minute after calmly finishing inside the box following a superb through ball from Oswin Appollis.
He then doubled Bafana Bafana’s advantage just before half-time, producing an unbelievable dribble past two Eritrea defenders before smashing his effort into the corner. But it was not just his goals that stood out.
Mofokeng finished the match with 2 goals, 3 key passes, 3 interceptions, 4 dribbles, 6 shots, 7/7 ground duels won, 10 recoveries, 81% accurate passes and 95 touches.
Even more impressively, all 4 of his dribbles were successfully completed, while he won 100% of his ground duels.
His 95 touches also underlined how involved he was throughout the match, while the 3 key passes showed his ability to create opportunities for his teammates.
COMPLETE PERFORMANCE
The numbers highlight just how influential Mofokeng was in Bafana Bafana’s 5-0 victory.
He was dangerous going forward with 6 shots and 4 successful dribbles, but also contributed defensively with 3 interceptions, 10 recoveries and 7/7 ground duels won. His passing was also effective, with 81% accuracy across his 95 touches.
For Pitso Mosimane, it was another encouraging performance from one of South Africa’s most exciting attacking players. Mofokeng finished the night with two goals, but his overall numbers showed a player influencing the game in almost every area.
The Royale Union Saint-Gilloise attacking midfielder and winger made his senior international debut in June 2024, aged just 19, when he came off the bench during South Africa’s 3-1 FIFA World Cup qualifying victory over Zimbabwe.
His rapid rise soon saw him take on the iconic No. 10 jersey and earn selection for major assignments, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Initially used as an impact player from the bench, Mofokeng quickly showed his ability to change the tempo of matches and provide a creative spark when Bafana Bafana needed it most.
He has since established himself as a regular international performer, recording 17 caps and 3 senior goals for South Africa. Mofokeng scored his first senior international goal in a World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, where he was also named Man of the Match.
