GFA to recieve $700,000 a year as CAF increases annual funding for MAs

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a 33% increase in annual financial support for its 54 member associations, with each set to receive up to $700,000.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe also confirmed a 20% increase in funding for the continent’s zonal unions, which will now receive $900,000 annually, up from $750,000.

The latest increases form part of CAF’s efforts to strengthen football development across Africa and help national associations build sustainable football structures.

Under the revised funding arrangements, the annual allocation for member associations has risen from $525,000 to $700,000, marking another increase since Motsepe took office in 2021.

When the current CAF leadership began its reforms, member associations received $200,000 annually. That amount was subsequently doubled to $400,000 before rising to $525,000 and now $700,000.

The latest adjustment represents a substantial increase in the financial resources available to national football governing bodies, although the amount each association ultimately receives will depend on the applicable funding arrangements.

CAF says the additional support is intended to help member associations strengthen their football development structures, improve administration and governance, and invest in long-term programmes.

Youth and women’s football are among the key areas expected to benefit, alongside initiatives designed to create more opportunities for players, coaches, referees and other football stakeholders.

The funding is also intended to help national associations develop programmes that can sustain themselves financially and improve the overall standard of the game in their respective countries.

Motsepe and the CAF Executive Committee have made the development of football across all 54 member associations a central part of their agenda, with the stated ambition of making African football world-class and financially sustainable.

The increased allocations will be particularly relevant for associations seeking to improve grassroots football, strengthen youth development pathways and expand opportunities for women and girls.

However, the impact of the additional funding will depend on how effectively individual associations allocate the resources, implement development programmes and maintain transparent financial management.

The latest announcement continues CAF’s broader effort to increase financial support for its members and strengthen the administrative and technical foundations of football across the continent.
