Nkwanta North NDC members threaten to disrupt elections over alleged court injunction

AI summary
Tension is mounting in the Nkwanta North Constituency of the Oti Region, with some aggrieved National Democratic Congress (NDC) members threatening to disrupt the party’s upcoming constituency elections if organisers proceed despite an alleged court injunction.
The aggrieved members claim the Dambai High Court has halted the elections over alleged discrepancies in the party’s voter register.
According to the group, elections were not held in more than 70 polling stations, while names of persons who are not party members were allegedly added to the register.
The convenor of the group, Prosper Gakpe, said a court bailiff had served the Electoral Commission, security agencies and other relevant authorities with the injunction.
He urged party officials to comply with the court’s directive, warning that proceeding with the elections could heighten tensions in the constituency.
However, Nkwanta North NDC Constituency Chairman and District Chief Executive, Isaiah Dordoe, denied receiving any court injunction.
He said he had only seen a document purported to be the injunction circulating on social media, adding that preparations for the elections had been completed.
Mr Dordoe maintained that the elections would proceed as scheduled, despite the concerns raised by the aggrieved members.
