Morning traffic update: N2 southbound gridlocked after crash, PMB robots affected

Motorists travelling across KwaZulu-Natal are facing delays this morning, with a crash on the N2 southbound near the EB Cloete Interchange causing severe congestion.

The N2 southbound is backed up towards the Umgeni Interchange, with traffic currently moving slowly or at a standstill in sections.

A biker was critically injured in a separate crash on the N2 southbound before Spaghetti Junction. Paramedics are treating and stabilising the injured motorcyclist, with traffic severely affected in the area.

On the N3, the route between Pietermaritzburg and Durban is open in both directions, including the section between Market Road and Ashburton.

However, motorists approaching the EB Cloete Interchange northbound should expect delays, with the on-ramp to the N2 obstructed.

Traffic monitoring is also active around Umhlanga, Sibaya, Spaghetti Junction and surrounding interchanges.

In Pietermaritzburg, an electricity fault affecting parts of Epworth, Hayfields, Lincoln Meade, Bellevue and Scottsville may result in traffic lights being out at some intersections.

Motorists are urged to treat intersections where robots are not working as four-way stops and to proceed with caution.

N3 construction is also under way between Nottingham Road and Estcourt, Harrismith and Warden, and between Villiers and Heidelberg at Interchange 59. Motorists should approach these areas with caution.

Traffic is expected to build on major routes through the morning peak, with motorists advised to allow extra travel time, maintain a safe following distance and remain alert for pedestrians, breakdowns and developing incidents.
