Three remanded as Oti Police seize suspected narcotics hidden in truck compartments

The Oti Regional Police Command has intercepted an articulator truck carrying 5,164 compressed round parcels suspected to contain narcotics, and arrested three men.

Acting on intelligence, police stopped a DAF articulator truck with registration number GE 3906-15 on September 14.

According to a statement from the Police Command, the truck was suspected to be carrying narcotic substances hidden in secret compartments and a search of the compartments led to the discovery of the parcels.

Three suspects, Abdul Razak Adamu, 35, a driver; Jubril Amidu, 33, a mechanic; and Aliu Adamu, 33, a driver, were arrested while a fourth occupant of the truck, Adamu Iddi, is said to have escaped.

The three who were arrested were arraigned before the Dambai Circuit Court on September 17 and remanded into police custody. They are due to reappear on 15 October.

The truck has been impounded, and the exhibits have been secured to assist investigations.

Efforts are also ongoing to arrest the suspect who escaped and identify other people connected to the consignment.

The Oti Region Police Command assured the public of its commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and organised crime and urged the public to provide credible information to help them.
