Man who killed girlfriend makes strange gestures to family in courtroom

A courtroom appearance by Nelson Ambia, the man accused of killing his girlfriend, Feruz Hussein, has sparked heated debate online after footage emerged showing him making unusual gestures towards the deceased’s family during court proceedings.

Ambia appeared in court on Thursday, October 22, as detectives continued investigating the death of the 21-year-old woman. However, it was his conduct inside the courtroom, rather than the progress of the case alone, that attracted widespread attention after a video of the proceedings circulated on social media.

In the footage, Ambia is seen seated in the dock wearing a T-shirt bearing the words “Bad Boys.” At one point, he appears to stick out his tongue, make facial expressions and mouth words while facing members of Hussein’s family, who were present in court.

The images quickly generated reactions among Kenyans online, with some questioning the appropriateness of his behaviour during proceedings involving such serious allegations.

Others expressed sympathy for Hussein’s relatives, who are navigating the painful loss of their loved one while following the legal process in search of answers.

Although the footage has attracted considerable attention, Ambia’s intentions behind the gestures could not be independently established from the video.

Hussein, aged 21, reportedly died at her residence in Sunton, Kasarani, following an alleged domestic dispute on September 30, 2026.

Her death prompted investigations by detectives seeking to establish exactly what happened and identify the person responsible.

According to reports surrounding the case, Ambia allegedly recorded footage showing Hussein’s lifeless body and sent it to members of her family. The reported incident left her relatives devastated as they struggled to come to terms with the loss and sought answers about the circumstances surrounding her death.

The case subsequently drew public attention as investigators pursued leads to locate the suspect.

Following the alleged killing, Ambia reportedly fled, prompting detectives to intensify their search. Investigators eventually traced him to Naivasha, where he was arrested.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko also attracted attention during the search after announcing a financial reward for information that could help authorities locate the suspect before his arrest.

The developments placed the case under increased public scrutiny, with many Kenyans following updates as investigators worked to establish the facts.

Detectives Granted More Time to Investigate

During the latest court proceedings, investigators were granted 14 days to complete key aspects of their investigation.

The additional time is expected to allow detectives to pursue forensic analysis, record witness statements and gather other evidence that could help clarify the circumstances surrounding Hussein’s death.

A mental assessment has also been scheduled as part of the legal process.

Ambia remains in custody as investigators continue working on the case. The additional investigative period is intended to help authorities assemble the necessary evidence before the matter proceeds to the next stage.

The case is expected to return to court on November 5, when investigators are anticipated to provide an update on the progress made.

The video showing Ambia’s courtroom gestures has added another layer of public interest to a case already marked by grief and serious allegations.

For Hussein’s family, the court proceedings represent an important step towards establishing what happened to their daughter and ensuring that the matter is handled through the justice system.

The reactions online have also highlighted the emotional weight that high-profile criminal cases can carry, particularly when details emerge about the final moments of a young person’s life.

However, the legal process remains central to determining the outcome of the case. The allegations against Ambia have yet to be established in court, and his conduct in the footage does not, on its own, determine his guilt or innocence.

As investigators continue collecting evidence, the upcoming court appearance is expected to provide further information about the progress of the case.

For now, Hussein’s death remains a deeply distressing matter for her family, while the courtroom video continues to fuel discussion among Kenyans awaiting answers.

The court will ultimately determine the case based on the evidence presented and the applicable law.
