Oscar-winning producer Barrie M. Osborne, one of the producers behind the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy, is developing a new fantasy adventure titled Wars of the Drakons: The Seer’s Prophecy.
Osborne, who also produced Face/Off and served as an executive producer on films including The Matrix, The Great Gatsby, The Meg and the live-action Mulan, will produce the project alongside Jeanette B. Milio and Jim Milio of Alliance Cinema.
The film is being developed as the first instalment of a potential franchise and is set in the war-torn world of Aerion, where rival kingdoms battle for power with the help of powerful dragon-like creatures known as Drakons.
At the centre of the story is Kale D’Sar, a legendary warrior and Drakon master whose loyalty to a ruthless king is tested after a mysterious Seer delivers a prophecy about the king’s daughter, Princess Kahrie.
The prophecy foretells that Kahrie will grow into a great warrior, unite Aerion’s divided kingdoms and eventually bring an end to her father’s brutal rule.
When the king attempts to have his daughter killed, Kale becomes involved in a dangerous plot to protect her. The ensuing adventure will explore war, forbidden love, betrayal and magic, alongside large-scale battles involving the Drakons.
Newcomer Carla Romero wrote the original story and will also serve as a producer. The project has reportedly been in development for more than six months and is being positioned as a large-scale fantasy adventure with international appeal.
