Kurt Okraku is undermining Ghana football governance – Old Tafo MP

Old Tafo Member of Parliament Vincent Ekow Assafuah has criticised Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku, alleging that football administration in the country is no longer being conducted on a fair and transparent basis.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, the lawmaker claimed important decisions affecting the sport are being taken behind closed doors and expressed concerns about the condition of playing surfaces used for domestic competitions.

“Ghana football is not being played on a level playing field. Decisions are being made behind closed doors, and Kurt Okraku wants to destroy the game,” Assafuah said.

The MP also questioned the quality of pitches across the country, arguing that some venues are unsuitable for competitive football, particularly after heavy rainfall.

“Why should we continue playing when, after heavy rain, the ball can’t even bounce properly on the pitch?” he asked.

Assafuah further suggested that the concentration of power within the game was creating doubts about the integrity of football administration.

“Even as the Minority, we will continue to do our best to contribute to the progress of Ghana. But when Ghana football appears to be controlled by one individual, with decisions allegedly influencing who wins and who loses, it raises serious concerns about the state of the game,” he added.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions about the state of Ghana football, with governance, transparency, officiating standards and infrastructure among the issues frequently raised by stakeholders.

Assafuah is the latest public figure to voice concerns over the direction of the game under the current GFA leadership.

In recent days, Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah also criticised Okraku, accusing him of presiding over the decline of Ghana football.

Okraku responded to those remarks by dismissing the lawmaker’s views, stating that he knew little about football administration.

The GFA president has yet to publicly comment on Assafuah’s latest allegations.
