Futsal AFCON 2026: Morocco, Angola clash for continental crown

Morocco and Angola will face off in the final of the 2026 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations in Rabat on Wednesday. Backed by a particularly prolific attack and a defence that has yet to concede a goal, the Atlas Lions are aiming for a fourth consecutive continental title.

Their opponents, however, the Palancas Negras, head into the final buoyed by two remarkable comebacks during the tournament. The final promises an intense contest combining technical skill, tactical control and finishing efficiency.

Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Rabat. Playing in front of their home crowd, Hicham Dguig’s men have the opportunity to extend their dominance of African futsal and reaffirm their status as a continental benchmark.

Having been crowned champions in 2016, 2020 and 2024, Morocco can claim a fourth title and retain the trophy won at the previous edition. The objective is clear: turn their superiority throughout the tournament into another title.

The statistics highlight the strength of the Moroccan side. In the group stage, the Atlas Lions recorded three wins in three matches, defeating Algeria (4-0), Zambia (7-0) and Libya (6-0). They scored 17 goals, conceded none and collected all nine available points.

They maintained that momentum in the semi-finals, beating Egypt 6-0. Morocco therefore enter the final with four wins, 23 goals scored and no goals conceded since the start of the competition. Their defensive solidity is one of their main assets.

Several players have also stood out in attack. Idriss Raiss El Fenni scored four goals against Zambia, while Soufian Charraoui netted three against Egypt. Bilal Bakkali and Ismail Amazal also contributed to the emphatic semi-final victory.

This range of goalscorers makes Morocco difficult to contain, as the threat does not depend on a single player but on a collective attacking system capable of making the difference across different areas of the court.

Angola, meanwhile, have a different but equally noteworthy profile. The Palancas Negras won all three of their group-stage matches, beating Mozambique (5-1), Tanzania (6-0) and Egypt (4-2), before coming from behind to defeat Algeria 3-2 in the semi-finals.

Their record stands at 18 goals scored and five conceded in four matches. More importantly, the Angolans have demonstrated a remarkable ability to respond when trailing, overturning a two-goal deficit against Egypt in the group stage and another against Algeria in the semi-finals.

This ability to fight back is a warning for Morocco. Angola have shown that they can raise their intensity after the break, exploit spaces and maintain pressure until the final minutes. Their victory over Algeria, secured through three second-half goals after trailing 2-0, highlighted their mental resilience and ability to deliver in decisive moments.

The tactical battle could therefore hinge on transitions and control of the pace. Morocco will seek to impose their passing game, pressing and attacking variety while avoiding turnovers that could fuel opposition counterattacks.

Angola, for their part, will need to withstand Morocco’s early attacking spells and make the most of every opportunity to unsettle the hosts. In a sport where the balance of a match can shift within minutes, defensive concentration and foul management will be crucial.

For Morocco, the stakes are twofold: retain their continental crown and reaffirm a dominance built over successive editions. For Angola, the final offers an opportunity to challenge the established hierarchy and turn their determined run into a historic triumph.
