Sam George Warns Workers to Adapt to AI or Risk Losing Relevance in the Job Market

Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has urged workers to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and adapt to the changing demands of the job market, warning that those who fail to evolve may struggle to remain relevant.

Speaking on the growing influence of AI on employment, Sam George stressed that the ability to learn, adjust and acquire new skills would be crucial for workers seeking to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

According to the minister, technological advancement is changing how businesses operate, how organisations deliver services and how employees perform their duties. He indicated that rather than resisting these changes, workers should prepare themselves to take advantage of the opportunities emerging from the adoption of AI.

“Those who evolve and adapt will survive,” he stated, highlighting the importance of adjusting to new realities as artificial intelligence continues to influence different sectors of the economy.

The growing use of AI has generated discussions worldwide about the future of work, with concerns that some jobs could become automated while new roles emerge in technology-related fields.

Businesses are increasingly exploring AI tools to improve productivity, reduce the time spent on repetitive tasks and support decision-making. While these developments could improve efficiency, they have also raised questions about job security, particularly for workers whose responsibilities can be performed by automated systems.

Sam George’s remarks underscore the need for workers to prepare for these changes by developing relevant skills and becoming familiar with emerging technologies.

For young people entering the job market, the shift presents both challenges and opportunities. Digital literacy, critical thinking, creativity, communication and the ability to use AI tools effectively could become increasingly important in securing employment and advancing professionally.

The minister’s message also highlights the importance of continuous learning, as skills that are valuable today may require improvement or replacement as technology develops.

However, adapting to AI does not necessarily mean that every worker must become a software developer or technology expert. Rather, understanding how these tools work and how they can be applied within different professions could help employees remain productive and competitive.

The conversation around AI and employment is particularly important for Ghana, where efforts to expand digitalisation and strengthen the technology sector could influence the country’s future workforce.
