Matiang’i Names Team to Lead Jubilee’s Opposition Coalition Talks Ahead of 2027
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has appointed a committee to lead Jubilee Party’s efforts to build a broad opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election. The move follows the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) endorsement of a plan to deepen engagement with like-minded parties and alliances.
The NEC adopted the resolution at a meeting on October 27, chaired by Matiang’i in his capacity as party leader and presidential candidate. In a notice signed by Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta, Jubilee said the committee would lead talks with opposition parties and coalitions to strengthen cooperation ahead of the next polls.
The committee comprises Kembi Gitura, who will serve as chairperson, and Ole Kenta and Janet Ong’era. Jubilee said it formed the team in recognition of its membership in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance and the need to build unity among opposition parties.
The committee will review the draft Deed of Agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance and propose amendments where necessary as Jubilee considers closer collaboration with other opposition groups. It will also engage like-minded parties to explore opportunities for cooperation and coalition-building and develop proposals to strengthen opposition unity ahead of the 2027 election.
The committee will submit its recommendations to the NEC for consideration and further direction.
“Jubilee recognizes that building consensus and strengthening unity among opposition parties are essential in preparing for the 2027 General Election,” the announcement stated.
The resolutions signal Jubilee’s move to formalize its role in efforts to bring opposition parties together under a common political framework. The party said cooperation would help advance shared political goals and strengthen collective engagement on national issues.
The NEC also approved interim appointments to fill vacant party positions, naming Lucy Naisiae Kashu as interim chairperson of the Party Women’s Caucus and Madina Yunis Mahat as interim deputy national organizing secretary. Both will serve in an acting capacity until the party’s established structures fill the positions.
The meeting also passed a resolution wishing candidates success in national examinations. Jubilee extended its goodwill to learners sitting the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA), the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, and other national assessments.
Ole Kenta signed the resolutions, issued on October 28. He said the decisions reflected Jubilee’s priorities as it prepares for the next phase of political engagement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
