Nii Lante Vanderpuye questions club owners’ involvement in Ghana football management

Former Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye has questioned the involvement of club owners in the management of Ghana football, arguing that potential conflicts of interest could affect decisions involving the national team.Vanderpuye made the remarks following the Black Stars disappointing 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.According to the former minister, individuals who have direct ownership interests in clubs should not be placed in positions where they are responsible for managing the countrys football, as he believes personal interests could conflict with the broader interests of the national team.When people who directly own clubs are managing our football, we have a problem. There is no way the national interest will supersede personal interest, Vanderpuye told Joy FM.He also expressed his disappointment with Ghanas display against The Gambia, describing it as the poorest Black Stars performance he has witnessed in several decades of following the national team.In all my years watching football in the 70s, 80s and 90s, I have never seen a Black Stars performance as poor as we saw against The Gambia, he added.The Black Stars surrendered a two-goal advantage before eventually losing 4-2 to The Gambia, raising questions about the teams performance and the wider management of Ghana football.
