Marcus Rashford’s strong start to the season has been a silver lining for Manchester United.

There is no denying that Manchester United have made an underwhelming start to the 2026/27 season and frustrations are high after the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

But there have been some strong performances from Michael Carrick’s side despite the results, and Marcus Rashford has arguably been one of the club’s best players after being welcomed back.

Rashford is yet to score or assist, but his general play has been outstanding and the statistics back it up.

In the 2026/27 Premier League statistics, United are second when it comes to expected goals (xG) with 8.29 in the opening four matches.

United have Rashford to thank for much of that because he has created more chances than any other player in the squad.

As pointed out by StatmanDave, no United player has created more chances in the Premier League this season than Rashford’s nine.

On top of that, all of Rashford’s chances have been from open play too.

Last season, Fernandes was named PFA Player of the Year after breaking the assist record in the Premier League.

When it came to creativity, no United player came close to Fernandes. In fact, no one in the Premier League did.

Yet this season, Rashford is going stride for stride with Fernandes when it comes to creating chances for teammates.

It is only a matter of time until Rashford scores or assists for the first time since returning to United, and that should only add more confidence to his game.
