22-Year-Old Man Arrested for Alleged Rape of 15-Year-Old Girl in Matiko-Xikaya Village

LIMPOPO — A 22-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in Matiko-Xikaya village, prompting a swift manhunt by local authorities. The suspect is set to appear in court today as police investigate the severe gender-based violence incident involving the minor.

The ordeal began on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at approximately 21:00, when the victim’s 35-year-old mother realized her daughter had not returned home and had gone to sleep alone. The following day, Sunday, September 27, at around 18:00, the mother received a distressing phone call indicating that the teenager was afraid to return home. She immediately rushed to a local residence in the area where she found her daughter.

According to the victim’s account, she had initially gone to visit her boyfriend. The boyfriend then took her to the home of his 22-year-old friend in Matiko-Xikaya village, leaving her in his care under the guise of accompanying her home later. While at the residence, the suspect allegedly grabbed the teenager, forcefully pushed her onto a bed, and raped her.

Following the assault, the 15-year-old was released and subsequently disclosed the ordeal to her family. The family immediately reported the incident to the local police under the Lulekani policing area. A case of rape was officially opened, triggering a manhunt for the known suspect.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the 22-year-old male suspect was apprehended later that same day, Sunday, September 27, within Matiko-Xikaya village.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Lulekani Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday, September 29, 2026, where he will formally face a charge of rape.
