Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has returned to the Ago-Iwoye Police Division in Ogun State, where he began his journey in the Nigeria Police Force as a Divisional Police Officer decades ago.
The visit was disclosed on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, in a post on X accompanied by a video of Disu touring the police division.
According to Iniedu, the IGP returned to his first police station, where he reflected on his early days as a police officer and the experiences that shaped his leadership career.

“From Ago Iwoye to Force HQ. From DPO to IGP. IGP Olatunji Disu psc (+), NPM just walked back into his very first station, Ago Iwoye Division, Ogun State, decades after it all began,” Iniedu said.
During the visit, Disu stood in his former office, visited the residence where he once lived and toured the farm he used during his time at the division.
Iniedu described the visit as more than a nostalgic return, saying it served as a reminder of Disu’s journey from a young police officer to the head of the Nigeria Police Force.
“This wasn’t nostalgia. This was an operational pilgrimage. A reminder that every giant was once a beginner. Every throne has a starting point,” he said.
Speaking in the video, Disu described his return to Ago-Iwoye as an emotional experience, recalling that the division was where he first tested and developed his leadership abilities as a DPO.
“It’s a very emotional one. This is my first police station. This is where I learned to be a DPO,” Disu said.
He recalled being posted to the division at a time when he had never served as a DPO, describing the experience as an important stage in his professional development.
“This is the first time I was able to test my leadership ability. I remember when I was posted here. I’ve never been a DPO before,” he added.
Disu said he also visited his former room and office during the tour and planned to walk around the surrounding streets to reconnect with memories from his early years at the station.
He recalled an elderly woman who used to sell items in front of the police station and raise goats, which he said often wandered into the station.
The IGP also remembered an elderly man known as Baba Aladji, whom he said was very old at the time.
Reflecting on his career journey, Disu urged people, particularly police officers, to make positive contributions wherever they find themselves working.
“Where you work, do well. The question is, can you go back to where you worked before?” he said.
