Bellville taxi rank shooting leaves four dead and child injured

Four men were shot and killed and two others, including a seven-year-old child, were injured during a brazen shooting at the Bellville Taxi Rank in Cape Town on Saturday evening, Cape {town} Etc reports.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Frederick C. van Wyk of the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit, the shooting occurred around 21:00, when the victims were gathered at the long-distance side of the taxi rank.

In a swift and chaotic assault, four gunmen, having arrived in two separate vehicles, approached and opened fire on the group, leading to a devastating toll of fatalities and injuries.

The police have confirmed that the victims ranged in age, with the youngest being a child, who thankfully survived but suffered serious wounds.

‘Our police reports indicate that the assailants fired multiple rounds. The utter disregard for life displayed is alarming,’ said Van Wyk.

He added that Bellville police have registered murder and attempted murder cases, underlining the gravity of this incident.

In the wake of the attack, a firearm linked to a taxi driver was confiscated by police officers on the scene. While this development may provide some clues, authorities have yet to make any arrests.

Van Wyk assured the public that investigations are ongoing, with detectives pursuing various leads to apprehend the gunmen responsible.
