Leaders Who Joined Gachagua for an Evening Consultation in Wamunyoro After Kalonzo Engagement

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua continued his political engagements at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County on Monday evening, October 26, 2026, following an earlier meeting with Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other opposition figures.

The series of engagements has drawn attention as opposition leaders explore possible partnerships ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

Among the leaders linked to the day’s consultations was Democratic Action Party of Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, who also visited Gachagua. Wamalwa presented a bull to the former deputy president during his visit, adding a symbolic touch to the political engagement.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior and Kitui Governor Julius Malombe were also among the Ukambani leaders associated with the broader consultations surrounding Kalonzo’s visit.

Other political figures connected to the day’s engagements included Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, who have been involved in discussions surrounding opposition cooperation.

The meetings come amid growing efforts by opposition leaders to establish a common political strategy capable of challenging President William Ruto in the next general election.

Gachagua’s meeting with Kalonzo was particularly significant because both leaders command influential political support in their respective regions. Their engagement has fuelled speculation about possible cooperation between the Democracy for the Citizens Party and the Wiper-led political camp.

Although the precise details of the discussions have not been fully disclosed, the engagements point to continued efforts to bring together leaders with different political backgrounds under a broader opposition arrangement.

The consultations also follow Gachagua’s previous engagement with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, highlighting the expanding network of political discussions taking place ahead of 2027.

However, questions remain over who will lead any potential opposition coalition, how presidential nominations will be handled and whether the participating parties can reach a lasting agreement.

As political realignments gather momentum, Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence is increasingly becoming an important meeting point for leaders seeking to discuss the country’s political future.

The coming weeks may provide further clarity on whether these consultations will translate into a formal alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
