Governor Sacky Kathindi Highlights Land Reform and Agricultural Opportunities in Oshikoto

Remarks by Hon. Sacky Kathindi, Regional Governor of Oshikoto Region, at the official handover of allotment letters to resettlement beneficiaries of Farm Tsintsabis No. 881 and Farm Urwald No. 1150.

Good morning.

It is a great honour to be here with you this morning on this important occasion for the official handover of allotment letters to resettlement beneficiaries who have been allocated farming units at Farm Tsintsabis No. 881 and Farm Urwald No. 1150.

As the Governor of the Oshikoto Region, I am here today to give the purpose of this occasion and to underscore the importance of this milestone to the beneficiaries and to the region as a whole.

Today’s occasion is about more than the handing over of allotment letters. It is about giving effect to Government’s commitment to land reform and resettlement, while creating opportunities for our people to access land, establish sustainable livelihoods and contribute to agricultural production.

This occasion is particularly significant for those beneficiaries whose allocations have remained outstanding for some time. The matter was brought into renewed focus through the collaborative efforts of the Oshikoto Regional Council, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, and other relevant stakeholders.

I would like to acknowledge the intervention of the Guinas Constituency Regional Councillor, Honourable Moses Khumub, whose concerns regarding the beneficiaries’ lack of security of tenure helped bring this longstanding matter to the attention of the relevant authorities. Through the concerted efforts of all stakeholders, the process received renewed attention and has now progressed to this important handover.

The allotment letters provide beneficiaries with an opportunity to plan, invest in and develop their farming units with greater confidence. They provide an important foundation upon which the beneficiaries can build productive and sustainable farming enterprises.

However, these allotment letters do not only represent an opportunity; they also come with responsibility. I therefore encourage all beneficiaries to use the land productively, manage their farming units responsibly, comply with the conditions attached to their allocations, and contribute meaningfully to agricultural production and the development of our region.

The success of the resettlement programme depends not only on the allocation of land, but also on the productive utilisation of that land. I therefore urge the beneficiaries to embrace this opportunity and work towards making their farming units sustainable and productive.

As Oshikoto Region, we continue to recognise agriculture as an important sector for improving livelihoods, strengthening food security and creating economic opportunities for our people. We therefore encourage the beneficiaries to make productive use of these farming units and, where possible, explore opportunities for value addition, market access and partnerships that can strengthen their agricultural activities.

Allow me to express my sincere appreciation to the Honourable Minister for officiating at this important occasion, and to the Ministry, the Oshikoto Regional Resettlement Committee, the Traditional Authority, the Regional Council and all other stakeholders whose efforts have contributed to bringing us to this point.

To the beneficiaries, I warmly congratulate you on this important milestone. This is a new beginning, and I encourage you to approach it with commitment, responsibility and determination.

May these allocations open a new chapter of opportunity, productivity and improved livelihoods for you and your families, while contributing to the agricultural development and food security of the Oshikoto Region.
