Shun partisan politics, Aiyedatiwa tells Ondo corps members

By Dayo Johnson Akure

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to avoid partisan politics in their host communities.

Aiyedatiwa gave the charge at the closing ceremony and terminal parade of the 2026 Batch C Stream I orientation course held at Ikare-Akoko.

Represented by the State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, the governor urged the corps members to be conscious of their responsibilities.

“Remain mindful of the responsibilities that come with your position as corps members. Your actions will reflect not only on you but also on your families, your institutions and the NYSC,” he said.

He appealed to employers and heads of establishments to receive corps members posted to them with cooperation and understanding.

“Provide them with a conducive working environment, appropriate guidance and opportunities to contribute their knowledge and skills. Your mentorship can help them grow professionally and gain valuable experience that will serve them well beyond their service year,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He also called on local government authorities, traditional rulers and community leaders to support corps members in their areas to aid their integration and effective execution of Community Development Service projects.

“Your cooperation is essential to their successful integration into host communities and to the effective implementation of Community Development Service projects. By working together, we can ensure that the presence of corps members translates into tangible benefits for the people of Ondo State,” he added.

The governor further urged the corps members to accept their postings in good faith and serve with diligence, integrity and respect for their host communities.

“Approach your responsibilities with a strong sense of duty. Accept your postings in good faith and serve with diligence, integrity and respect for the people among whom you will live and work. Be willing to learn from your host communities, respect their customs and cultural values and conduct yourselves in ways that will earn their trust and confidence.

“Your service year should be about more than fulfilling an obligation. It should be an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa assured that his administration will continue to collaborate with security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a safe environment for corps members throughout the service year.

He cautioned them against compromising their personal security, advising them to remain vigilant, avoid late-night movements and unsafe gatherings, and shun unsolicited rides from strangers.

“Be cautious when visiting unfamiliar or isolated places and promptly report suspicious activities or security concerns to the appropriate authorities.

“Shun drug abuse, cybercrime, fraud and other unlawful activities that could jeopardise your future and bring disrepute to the scheme,” the governor added. End
