In a major boost to local entrepreneurship and youth empowerment, a cluster of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District has presented essential startup equipment to 32 young men and women to enable them to establish their own businesses.
The initiative targets young individuals equipped with vocational skills, offering them the requisite tools to transition into self-reliance. Among the beneficiaries are 24 females and 8 males.
In addition to funding the full cost of their vocational and trade apprenticeship training, the NGO cluster supplied working tools to help each participant start working immediately.
The distribution spans various vocational disciplines tailored to market demand within the district:
Fashion Designers: 18 females
Hairdressers & Beauticians: 4 females
Caterers: 2 females
Welders: 3 males
Auto Sprayer: 1 male
Carpenter: 1 male
POP Installer: 1 male
Aluminum Fabricator: 1 male
Electrician: 1 male
Items presented included gas ovens and stoves for caterers, industrial sewing machines, wig sewing machines, hair dryers, and specialized trade tools for technical artisans.
Speaking to Adom News, Nicholas Donkoh Barnes, Public Relations Officer for the NGO cluster, highlighted the core motivation behind the gesture.
According to Mr. Barnes, equipping the youth with sustainable livelihoods is key to curbing social vices such as drug abuse, armed robbery, and prostitution within the district.
He further emphasized that the initiative aims to demonstrate to Ghanaian youths that they can achieve financial independence and become successful business owners without relying solely on government or external support.
The beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude for the support, describing the intervention as a life-changing opportunity. Several recipients noted that receiving the equipment eliminates the financial hurdle of procuring startup tools, paving the way for them to become self-sufficient master craftspeople and potential employers in their community.
