Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources categorically denied a news agency report claiming a reduction in subsidised fertiliser quotas, affirming that the annual allocation remains unchanged at 2.4m tonnes.
The ministries stated that reports suggesting a quota reduction starting in August are entirely incorrect, noting that no such decisions or measures have been issued by the relevant authorities. The agriculture ministry added that the Fertiliser Coordinating Committee has not held any meetings to discuss modifying or reducing the quota.
The agriculture ministry stressed the continued implementation of shipping and supply programmes for subsidised fertilisers according to scheduled dates, ensuring their delivery to farmers across various governorates. The ministries reaffirmed that there will be no change to the selling price for farmers and that the supply will continue with the same quantities throughout 2026. Ongoing coordination with producing companies and factories is in place to overcome any challenges.
Meanwhile, the petroleum ministry confirmed it continues to secure the required quantities of natural gas for fertiliser factories to support regular operations and production. The ministry noted that the regular supply of gas during 2025 and 2026 has positively reflected on the Egyptian fertiliser industry’s performance and its capacity to meet both local market and export demands.
The petroleum ministry added that it will continue providing the required gas volumes, while fertiliser companies remain committed to supplying the agriculture ministry’s specified quotas for the subsidy system.
The two ministries called on the media to ensure accuracy and consult official sources before publishing information related to subsidised fertiliser quotas, supply programmes, or gas supplies to factories, to avoid spreading incorrect information that could affect the market or cause anxiety among farmers.
