Weather: Severe storms to hit two provinces this WEEKEND

Here is what the weather has in store for KZN, Free State and North West on Friday 18 September 2026.

An Orange level 6 warning has been issued for disruptive rain along the KwaZulu-Natal coast and nearby interior up to Richards Bay, while severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of Free State and KZN.

KWAZULU-NATAL

It will be cloudy and cold to cool, with very cold conditions expected in the south-west.

Widespread showers and thundershowers are expected in some parts of KZN, but it will become scattered in the extreme north-eastern parts.

Along the coast, moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly winds will blow, becoming strong at times north of Mtunzini.

The UVB sunburn index is going to be moderate.

DURBAN

Durban is going to be cloudy with widespread showers and thundershowers.

The wind will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly winds.

Temperatures will range from 14°C to 18°C.

The UVB sunburn index is going to be low.

FREE STATE

Cloudy, windy and cold to cool with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers.

BLOEMFONTEIN

Bloemfontein is going to be cloudy with widespread showers and thundershowers.

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 11**°C** to a maximum of 15**°C**.

NORTH WEST

North West province will experience partly cloudy conditions in the north-east, otherwise cloudy, windy and warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the extreme southwest.

MAHIKENG

Mahikeng is going to be cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 15**°C**. to a maximum of 27°C.
