Atiku: I Ran Against Him In The 2022 Presidential Primaries, So I Have Known Him Since 2019 – Wike

In a video shared by Channels TV on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), spoke about his past political relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar while criticising his consistency in political dealings ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wike made the remarks during an event organised by the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State to unveil its candidates and reaffirm its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While addressing the gathering, he questioned Atiku’s credibility and urged political supporters to consider his past actions before deciding whom to support.

The FCT minister recalled his participation in the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential primary process, where he competed against Atiku in 2022. He used their history of political interactions to explain why he believed he was familiar with Atiku’s approach to political agreements.

According to Wike, “I ran against him in the 2022 presidential primaries, so I have known him since 2019.” He made the statement while challenging Atiku’s political consistency and questioning whether his assurances could be relied upon.

Wike further alleged that Atiku had a pattern of making different statements at different times, arguing that political leaders should be judged by their positions and their willingness to honour agreements. His comments came amid political realignments and discussions over possible alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

He concluded by urging Rivers State residents and other political stakeholders to support Tinubu through the Rainbow Coalition, maintaining that members of different political parties had agreed to work together in support of the president’s re-election bid.
