Kwenda CEO Gondwe named among Africa’s 100 most influential

Malawian digital finance expert and technology entrepreneur Lumbani Gondwe has been named among Africa’s 100 Most Influential Persons for 2026.

Gondwe, founder and chief executive officer of travel technology company Kwenda, has been recognised for his work in digital finance, technology and financial inclusion.

His recognition adds to several awards Gondwe and Kwenda have received in recent years, including Malawi’s Most Scalable Solution at the 2026 Malawi National Innovations Awards organised by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA).

Kwenda also received awards from the ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM) in 2025 and 2026.

Earlier this year, Gondwe was recognised among Africa’s Most Respected CEOs in E-commerce.

He is a founding executive member and vice-chairperson of the Association of Digital Financial Services of Malawi, where he has been involved in promoting digital financial services and inclusion.

The latest recognition comes as Malawi seeks to expand the use of technology and digital services as part of its development agenda.

Gondwe’s work in digital finance and technology places him among Malawian professionals participating in the continent’s growing digital economy.
