Naledi Chirwa Shares Her Reasons for Accusing MySol of Benefiting Alone From the Mines

Naledi Chirwa shares her reasons for accusing MySol of benefiting alone from the mines, following a growing public dispute between Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and North West mining businessman Solomon “MySol” Soka Madibela.

‎‎The controversy centres on the ownership of mineral resources and whether the wealth generated by mining activities benefits ordinary South Africans and communities living near mining operations.

‎Chirwa, an EFF politician, is associated with the party’s longstanding position that South Africa’s mineral wealth should benefit the broader population rather than remain concentrated in the hands of a few wealthy individuals.

‎Her reported criticism follows Malema’s recent remarks targeting Madibela during an EFF rally at Letlhabile Stadium in Madibeng, North West, on Saturday, 24 October 2026.

‎‎Addressing supporters ahead of the upcoming local government elections, Malema criticised the businessman and argued that mining operations should serve local communities rather than primarily benefit individuals.

‎The EFF leader warned that his party would prioritise ordinary people’s access to mining opportunities if it came to power.

‎“There’s no MySol who will enjoy mining money alone,” Malema declared, reinforcing his party’s argument that communities should have greater opportunities to participate in the mining industry.

‎He also referred to Madibela as a “small boy”, escalating the public disagreement between the two men.

‎The confrontation has drawn attention to wider debates about economic inequality, mining ownership and the distribution of South Africa’s mineral wealth.

‎‎Madibela subsequently responded to Malema through messages reportedly shared on his WhatsApp status, returning the insult and mocking the EFF leader. The exchange quickly attracted attention on social media.

‎‎The dispute has also prompted reactions from other political figures. African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula defended Madibela, describing him as a “solid entrepreneur” and expressing his intention to speak to Malema to understand the disagreement and encourage an amicable resolution.

‎‎Madibela has previously maintained that he is not affiliated with any political party. However, his business success and public interactions with political figures have placed him at the centre of political discussions about entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.

‎For the EFF, the controversy provides another opportunity to highlight its argument that the country’s natural resources should contribute more directly to improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

‎‎However, the dispute also raises questions about how mining wealth should be distributed, the role of private entrepreneurs and the need to create opportunities for communities without undermining legitimate business activities.

‎As reactions continue, the disagreement between Malema and Madibela has become part of a broader national conversation about economic transformation and who ultimately benefits from South Africa’s mineral resources.
