Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu scores as Salford thrash Oldham Athletic

English-Ghanaian midfielder Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu scored as Salford City claimed a convincing 4-1 League Two victory over Oldham Athletic.Salford started sharply and took the lead after five minutes when Luke Molyneux converted Joe Powells assist. Kelly NMai doubled the visitors advantage in the 19th minute, putting them firmly in control of the contest.Oldham responded two minutes later through Calum Kavanagh, who finished after Keenan Appiah-Forson created the opening. That goal briefly revived the hosts hopes, but Salford retained their composure and carried a 2-1 lead into half-time.Sarpong-Wiredu then gave Salford greater breathing space 12 minutes after the restart. The midfielder struck in the 57th minute from a Molyneux assist to make it 3-1 and blunt Oldhams attempted comeback.Salford completed the win in the 81st minute when Adebola Oluwo scored from Luke Garbutts delivery. Molyneux was named player of the match after scoring once and supplying two assists.Salford City will face Fleetwood in League Two on October 3. Sarpong-Wiredu has played seven league games this season and scored once.
