“I Choose To Be The Enemy Of The State Than The Enemy Of The Future Of Our Children” Jacinta Zuma

Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, the leader of the March and March Movement, has issued a defiant message in the midst of growing tensions between the anti-illegal immigration movement and the government of South Africa. She has declared that she would rather be regarded as an enemy of the state than compromise what she considers to be the future of the children of the country.

Ngobese-Zuma made the following statement, which has garnered a lot of attention in the midst of the ongoing discussion regarding immigration:

As opposed to being compelled to become the enemy of the future of our children, I have made the decision to be the enemy of the state of the United States.

Her comments are reflective of the movement’s increasingly combative stance toward the government’s treatment of undocumented immigration, a topic that has been a major topic of public and political debate in the lead up to the local government elections that will take place in South Africa on November 4.

The March and March campaign, which has regularly called on authorities to improve immigration enforcement, address unauthorised immigration, and prioritise the concerns of South African people, has been led by Ngobese-Zuma, who has been at the forefront of the effort.

Concerns have been made regarding employment prospects, the burden that is being placed on public services, the ownership of businesses, and the enforcement of immigration legislation as a result of movements. The leadership of the organization maintains that the government should take more decisive action in order to solve what it identifies as the repercussions of weak immigration control measure.

However, its operations have also garnered a large amount of criticism, particularly in the wake of episodes of violence, intimidation, looting, and destruction to property that occurred during anti-immigration demonstrations in KwaZulu-Natal.

As a result of the activities of the movement, law enforcement officials have been increasingly interested in them. This has led to a legal dispute between the Minister of Police and the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

On the 30th of October, the Durban High Court granted an interim injunction that placed restrictions on the movement’s demonstrations and behaviour. There were a number of criteria that protestors were required to adhere to, including the prohibition against bringing weapons, concealing their identities, and using violence to compel companies to close and block highways.

As a result of police worries on the rising tensions in Durban, which included an alleged plan to set fire to the Department of Home Affairs Refugee Reception Center located on Che Guevara Road, the court procedures were initiated.

The approach used by the government has been contested by Ngobese-Zuma and other leaders of the movement, who argue that their constitutional right to peaceful protest must be recognised.

She emphasised, when speaking outside of the court in Durban, that the government ought to assist lawful demonstrations rather than prohibit the movement from expressing its concerns rather than preventing them from doing so.

In addition, the movement has voiced its disapproval of what it perceives to be an attempt to deter its campaign through the use of legal action.

Despite this, the government and the authorities in charge of law enforcement have been steadfast in their belief that peaceful demonstrations should not be used as a justification for acts of violence, intimidation, attacks on foreign individuals, or the destruction of property.

As a result of the debate, immigration enforcement and the safeguarding of constitutional rights have been the focal points of a more widespread national conversation.

In her most recent statement, Ngobese-Zuma presents the campaign of the movement as a struggle over the future generations of the country. This adds another depth to the argument that has been going on.

Despite the fact that South Africa is getting closer to holding elections for local government, immigration continues to be a key political topic. Various political parties and civic organisations are providing differing perspectives on how unauthorised immigration should be managed.

A further conversation about the obligations of the government, the right of citizens to demand responsibility, and the necessity of protecting the rights and safety of everyone living in South Africa is expected to be sparked as a result of her announcement.

For the time being, the most important question that needs to be answered is whether or not the government and movements like March and March can find a middle ground on immigration enforcement while still guaranteeing that constitutional liberties, public safety, and the rule of law are upheld.
