Police in Siaya have launched investigations into a suspected double murder after a man, identified as Dennis Okoth, allegedly confessed to killing his wife and his employer in separate incidents.
Ugenya Sub-County DCIO Benson Musyoka says the suspect allegedly killed his wife, Brenda Okoth, following a domestic dispute in September last year and buried her remains inside a house in Alego Ndere, Siaya County, before fleeing to Ugenya.
Musyoka says the suspect later secured domestic employment in Urenga Village, Ugenya, where he allegedly killed his employer, Eunice Atieno, on September 3, 2026, following a disagreement, before burying her in a house designated for domestic workers.
The suspect reportedly fled to Kakamega with his two-year-old son but was later arrested following a police operation and taken to Ukwala Police Station.
According to Musyoka, the suspect initially confessed to killing his employer. Three days later, further interrogation about the whereabouts of his wife led to another alleged confession, prompting Ugenya detectives to alert their counterparts in Siaya.
Homicide detectives subsequently visited the home in Ndere, where a grave was discovered inside a bedroom. Police obtained a court order for the exhumation, and Brenda's remains were taken to Siaya County Referral Morgue for a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, Ukwala Law Courts have granted police 14 days to complete investigations, as the suspect remains in custody.
Families of the two deceased women are now appealing to investigators to expedite the process and ensure justice is served.
Brenda's family, which hails from Bungoma County, is also appealing for financial assistance to facilitate her burial. The family says it has endured a long search for Brenda since reporting her disappearance at Ugunja Police Station last year.
They are now seeking to return her remains to Bungoma for burial in accordance with Luhya customs and to give her a dignified send-off.
