Uganda’s army chief and first son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has broken his silence on Rwanda hosting Formula 1 in 2030.
Via his X (formerly Twitter) account, Gen Muhoozi congratulated President Paul Kagame of Rwanda upon achieving this milestone and acknowledged the fact that the great sport will be returning to Africa after 33 years.
“I want to congratulate H.E. Paul Kagame and Rwanda for the return of Formula 1 to the African continent after 33 years. Hongera sana,” Muhoozi stated.
Acknowledging Rwanda should not come as a surprise, as General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and President Paul Kagame are so close and friendly that Muhoozi usually refers to him as uncle.
However, Muhoozi only stopped at praising Kagame and Rwanda but did not make any further statement on whether Uganda would also be willing to host the event one day.
Currently, Rwanda is in the spotlight after securing a 10-year deal to host Formula 1’s African Grand Prix starting in the early 2030s.
This will mark F1’s return to Africa for the first time since the 1993 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami.
The agreement was announced on 13 October 2026 in Kigali by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
The event will be called the Formula 1 African Grand Prix, presented by Visit Rwanda, when the time eventually comes.
Come 2030, everyone, including General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, will be ready to witness history happening on the African continent.
