Tanzania’s FCC wins EAC Quality Awards in Rwanda

KIGALI: THE Fair Competition Commission (FCC) of Tanzania has been crowned the overall winner in the Public Sector Service Quality category at the East African Community (EAC) Regional Quality Awards 2026.

The prestigious awards ceremony took place on the night of November 2, 2026, at the Movenpick Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda.

The award recognizes the FCC’s steadfast commitment and outstanding efforts in delivering high-quality public services, managing markets efficiently, protecting consumers, and promoting fair competition. This milestone positions the FCC as a leading public institution in fostering a culture of quality service within the East African region.

FCC secured the top spot in the category through its Market Management and Fair Competition enforcement services, beating stiff competition from notable public institutions across other EAC member states.

The short-listed contenders included Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) of Kenya, which showcased large-scale electricity generation services; the Rwanda Meteorology Agency, through its weather forecasting services; and the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) of Somalia, recognized for its national identification services.

Speaking after the announcement, industry experts noted that the FCC’s recognition underscores the crucial role the Commission plays in promoting a fair, transparent, and competitive market environment.

Quality within the marketplace does not rely solely on the goods and services provided by traders, but also on the existence of fair competition, well-informed consumers, and business practices that adhere to ethical and legal standards.

Established under the Fair Competition Act of 2003, the Commission is legally mandated to oversee and protect these principles. Its core responsibilities include enforcing competition laws, protecting consumers from unfair practices, and regulating mergers and acquisitions to prevent market dominance that could stifle innovation and harm the public.
