Hardship: ECWA Pastors Seek Review Of Fuel Subsidy Removal
AI summary
The Southern Kaduna ECWA Pastors Forum has called for a review of the fuel subsidy removal, saying the policy has worsened economic burden on Nigerians.
The chairman of the forum, Rev. Yusuf Biniyat, made the call during a special church service to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary and thanksgiving to God for the beginning of the last quarter of 2026 at ECWA 2, Kafanchan.
Biniyat called for a roundtable involving the government, labour, religious leaders, economists and other stakeholders to examine the impact of the policy and consider practical measures to reduce its burden on vulnerable Nigerians.
He expressed concern that the subsidy removal, which was initially presented as a measure to free up government resources and improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians, had instead increased the economic burden on the masses.
On insecurity, the cleric urged the federal government to remain deliberate and consistent in its efforts to tackle the challenge, saying there was a need to build a peaceful and secure country that could be handed over to future generations without stains.
Speaking on the theme of the service, “My God Will Complete All His Plans in My Life,” drawn from Philippians 1:1-6, Biniyat urged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and trust in God despite the challenges confronting them.
He also charged Christians to continue praying for the nation and its leaders, stressing the importance of divine wisdom, justice, peace and responsible leadership.
He prayed for Nigeria, its leaders and citizens, asking God to intervene in the affairs of the country, bring an end to insecurity and economic hardship, and guide the nation towards peace, unity and prosperity.
