The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have agreed to a one-off verification system for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions, ending repeated verification of WASSCE O’Level results by individual institutions.
Under the new arrangement, candidates will pay ₦4,000 once to verify their WAEC results through JAMB’s designated Verification Service platform.
The verified result will subsequently be made available to the institution where the candidate seeks admission.
The two bodies also directed tertiary institutions not to demand additional payment from candidates for verification of the same result.
The resolution was contained in a joint statement issued by JAMB and WAEC following a series of meetings and consultations on the implementation of the WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
According to the statement, all candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB are required to verify their WAEC results once through JAMB.
“The outcome of the verification will subsequently be made available to the institution to which the candidate seeks admission,” the bodies said.
They clarified that the ₦4,000 fee is payable only once through the specified JAMB platform and not through individual institutions.
Tertiary institutions are expected to use the verified results shared by JAMB for admission screening, processing and other administrative purposes.
“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” JAMB and WAEC stated.
The agreement also authorises JAMB to share verification outcomes with relevant tertiary institutions for approved admission purposes.
The bodies said candidates would be able to initiate the verification process from their homes or any internet-enabled location, reducing the need for repeated visits to institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
They urged candidates to take advantage of the new arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results through the JAMB Verification Service.
JAMB and WAEC said the collaboration was aimed at reducing unnecessary costs, simplifying the admission process and maintaining the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
