Khoisan Revolution (KSR) Expands 2026 Local Government Elections Footprint Across Northern Cape

UPINGTON, NORTHERN CAPE — The Khoisan Revolution (KSR) party is significantly expanding its electoral footprint ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections, moving beyond its traditional strongholds in Namaqualand and Upington to contest new wards across the Northern Cape. As the indigenous rights party prepares for its third consecutive local election cycle, it aims to build on past electoral successes by addressing critical community issues ranging from youth unemployment to formal cultural recognition.

This year, the KSR is extending its campaign eastward into the Kgatelopele Local Municipality, which includes Danielskuil, an area historically inhabited by the Korana people. The party has previously secured electoral victories in the region, winning a seat in the Nama Khoi Local Municipality in 2016 and another in the Dawid Kruiper Municipality in 2021. In both instances, the KSR assumed the position of municipal speaker after entering into coalitions with the African National Congress (ANC). Party leadership has expressed confidence that lessons learned from these two previous cycles will yield stronger, more impactful results in the upcoming November 4 elections.

A cornerstone of the KSR manifesto remains the formal recognition of the Khoi and San peoples, alongside the preservation of their languages and cultural heritage. Charles Peterson, a KSR councillor candidate for Upington, emphasized the party’s foundational mission during the campaign rollout.

“We are here to stand up for our rights,” Peterson stated. “Our rights are that we are the first nation. We are the first indigenous people in South Africa. We want our government to recognize us.”

In the Kgatelopele Local Municipality, candidates are focusing heavily on grassroots community challenges, particularly the scourge of substance abuse and youth idleness. Susanna Adams, a KSR councillor candidate for Kgatelopele, highlighted the urgent need for community-driven solutions to local crises.

“We will try together as a community to make things better,” Adams said, pointing to the severe impact of drug abuse among young people and the resulting suffering within the community.

Echoing this sentiment, fellow Kgatelopele candidate Beverley Smith stressed the importance of creating constructive, safe opportunities in Danielskuil. “We need to build something for the youth so that we can keep them busy, keep them off the streets, and help them relax so they don’t focus on the wrong things,” Smith explained.

Outlining the party’s broader strategic pillars, KSR Leader Stanley Peterson detailed a three-point plan to revitalize marginalized communities and restore social fabric.

“Firstly, we must bring back sports courts and recreational programs into schools,” Peterson outlined. “Secondly, we must eliminate youth unemployment, because our youth are currently roaming around with drugs simply because there is no work for them. There is nothing for them. And thirdly, we must look after our women, not just in words, but in tangible action.”

As the November 4 local government elections approach, the Khoisan Revolution’s expanded campaign signals a determined push to translate historical coalition experience into concrete municipal governance, with a sharp, unified focus on indigenous rights and youth development across the Northern Cape.
