Postbank Gold Cards will stop working from 2 September, with beneficiaries required to migrate to Black Cards to access their grant fund

The Postbank and SASSA deadline for beneficiaries to migrate from the old gold cards to the new black cards has passed.
The deadline was on Monday, following a migration process that began in 2025 and was aimed at moving social grant beneficiaries from the old gold cards to Postbank’s new black cards.
IOL previously reported that the looming deadline had sparked concern in Parliament, with the Portfolio Committee on Social Development questioning whether vulnerable beneficiaries could be assisted in time.
The committee raised particular concerns about older persons, people with disabilities and beneficiaries in rural and remote areas who may struggle to access card replacement sites.
For beneficiaries who have not yet migrated to a Postbank Black Card, the key change takes effect from Wednesday.
Postbank says Gold Cards will stop working, meaning beneficiaries will temporarily be unable to access their grant payments using the old cards.
However, missing the deadline does not mean that the grant payment will be stopped.
Beneficiaries who have not yet made the switch are urged to visit their nearest Postbank card replacement site as soon as possible.
The migration is free, and beneficiaries need a valid South African identity document or a temporary ID to complete the process. Beneficiaries can dial 120355# from any cellphone to locate a nearby card migration site.
Postbank has also said most card replacement sites will remain open for a period after the deadline to assist beneficiaries who were unable to migrate by 31 August.
