KEETMANSHOOP- Being subjected to bitter division and clan-based friction, the /Hai-/Khaua are moving towards unity and reconciliation.
At a recent fundraising gala dinner, Gaob elect Johan Frederick said, “For 40 agonising years, our community was paralysed by a dark shadow.’’
He added that this division and clan-based friction between the Isaack and Goliath factions tore their socio-economic identity to pieces.
“It further did not just wound our communal pride; it shackled our people to a predicament of unending stagnation, weakness and institutional poverty,” the traditional authority chief worriedly remarked. Frederick then diverted the attention to the /Hai-/Khaua youth.
“The turning point arrived when our youth refused to accept failure as a permanent inheritance,” he said.
Frederick continued, “Driven by that realisation, a historic meeting was called by (late) Reverend Stefanus Tiboth on 20 April 2010 and at that critical hour our community broke the generational gridlock and issued an absolute mandate to forge a single, united leadership.” This, according to the Kaptein, led to the community agreeing that Johannes Isaack will serve as their Gaob, with (late) Chief Stephanus Goliath deputising him accordingly. Based on that, he emphasised, “We paid too heavy a price in tears, patience and struggle to ever allow that achievement to be undermined.”
Frederick also warned that 40 years of suffering taught them that factional disputes and backroom resistance yield nothing but poverty, weakness and institutional paralysis.
The community will not allow the sacred house their elders built to be dismantled by anyone’s ego, he said.
“Dissent that aims to sabotage the collective progress of our children will no longer be tolerated as we, as the clan witnessed some councillors and self-serving factions attempting to drive fresh wedges into the tribe’s foundation,’’ said the designated Gaob.
