ECG Announces 8-Hour Power Blackout in These Parts of Accra and Tema From October 11 to 16

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced scheduled power outages affecting selected communities in Accra and Tema from Sunday, October 11, to Friday, October 16, 2026. The interruptions form part of maintenance work intended to improve electricity supply reliability.

According to the power distributor, the planned exercise will involve temporary interruptions as technical teams undertake essential work on the electricity distribution network. The company says the maintenance is necessary to strengthen the network and improve service delivery.

The announcement means residents, traders and businesses in the affected communities should prepare for temporary disruptions during the scheduled period. Households that depend on electricity for daily activities may need to adjust their routines to minimise inconvenience.

Businesses, particularly those operating refrigeration equipment, cold storage facilities, salons and other electricity-dependent services, are also encouraged to plan ahead. Making alternative arrangements could help reduce potential losses and prevent unnecessary interruptions to business operations.

ECG has provided a breakdown of the communities expected to experience the outages, alongside the specific times allocated for the maintenance work. Customers are advised to check the published schedule carefully to determine whether their locations will be affected.

The planned interruptions cover six consecutive days, although the duration and timing may differ depending on the community and the particular maintenance activities scheduled. Residents should therefore avoid assuming that all affected areas will experience outages at the same time.

The company says the maintenance exercise is aimed at improving the reliability of electricity distribution. Such work can involve inspecting equipment, servicing network infrastructure and addressing technical issues that could affect the consistent delivery of power.

For households, taking simple precautions before an outage can help limit inconvenience. Residents may charge mobile phones, keep essential devices powered, and make appropriate arrangements for food and other items requiring refrigeration.

Businesses may also consider preparing backup power where available and informing customers about possible service disruptions. However, customers should rely on ECG’s official announcements for confirmed information about the affected locations and scheduled outage periods.

The announcement comes as electricity remains essential to households, schools, healthcare facilities and commercial activities across the country. Any interruption can affect productivity and daily routines, making advance notice important for people who depend on a stable power supply.

Residents in Accra and Tema are encouraged to follow ECG’s updates throughout the maintenance period for any changes to the published schedule. The company has indicated that the exercise is intended to support a more reliable electricity distribution network in the affected communities.

Customers seeking further details can consult ECG’s official communication channels and review the published list of affected areas and outage times. Checking the schedule in advance will help residents and businesses prepare for the temporary interruptions between October 11 and October 16, 2026.
