Coach Dladla Sacked Despite Golden Arrows’ Five-Game Winning Streak

Lamontville Golden Arrows have abruptly terminated their contract with head coach Pitso Dladla, a move announced by the club on Thursday.

The decision follows a swift and unexpected turn of events, leaving many within the South African football community questioning the stability at the KwaZulu-Natal side.

Dladla’s tenure began after he assumed the role previously held by Manqoba Mngqithi, who subsequently joined Young Africans SC.

This shift in leadership occurred in October 2026, marking a significant change for Arrows.

The initial period under Dladla’s guidance demonstrated considerable promise.

The team began the campaign undefeated across their first six matches and successfully navigated the MTN8 semi-final, defeating both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns along the way.

However, this early success quickly faded, culminating in a disappointing exit from the MTN8 semi-final second leg and a subsequent five-game winless streak.

It is a stark reminder of the volatility often seen in South African football, where momentum can shift dramatically.

Sources close to the club suggest that the decision to dismiss Dladla was not solely based on the recent poor form.

The rapid succession of coaching changes within the PSL, coupled with the club’s struggles, likely contributed to a reassessment of the team’s direction.

The statement released by Arrows, thanking Dladla for his “efforts, commitment and dedication,” felt somewhat hollow given the circumstances.

The immediate impact of this change is expected to be the appointment of Mandla Ncikazi, formerly the assistant coach at Orlando Pirates.

With Ncikazi’s availability now open, it is widely anticipated that he will be offered the head coaching position at Arrows.

This move highlights the interconnected nature of coaching appointments within the league and the constant flow of talent.

It remains to be seen whether Ncikazi can restore stability and success to the Arrows, but the club faces a considerable challenge.

The recent events underscore the importance of long-term planning and consistent leadership within South African football, particularly for a club with the ambition and potential of Lamontville Golden Arrows.

The situation raises questions about the club’s management and their ability to navigate the pressures of the Betway Premiership.
