Just Hours After Holding a Meeting With Gachagua, Sifuna Receives This Bad News From ODM

Political tensions have emerged within Kenya’s opposition after reports that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other Linda Mwananchi leaders met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro home.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairperson Gladys Wanga has reportedly maintained a firm position against working with individuals who support or cooperate with Gachagua, a development that could complicate efforts to unite opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting has attracted attention because Sifuna remains a prominent figure in ODM politics while also being associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement. His engagement with Gachagua has raised questions about the direction of opposition politics and the possibility of cooperation between different political camps.

Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has been seeking to strengthen his political influence as leaders position themselves for the next general election.

Wanga’s reported remarks reflect the disagreements that continue to shape discussions about political alliances. Leaders within opposition parties have different views on who they should work with and which partnerships could help them challenge President William Ruto in 2027.

The latest development also comes at a time when political figures are holding meetings and consulting supporters as they consider their next moves. Such engagements are likely to influence negotiations, party relationships and the formation of possible alliances in the coming months.

However, the reported meeting does not, by itself, establish that Sifuna has formally joined Gachagua’s party or abandoned ODM. Any conclusions about future political arrangements would require clear statements from the leaders involved.

For now, attention remains on how ODM leaders will respond to the meeting and whether the differences can be resolved without creating further divisions within the opposition.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, political alliances are expected to remain a major subject of debate.

Do you think opposition leaders should work with Gachagua to strengthen their chances in 2027, or should they keep their distance?
