Netflix confirmed Ha Young's exit, adding that they respected her decision. "Ha Young has decided not to appear in the follow-up to 'The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call,' and we respect her decision."
Why is Ha Young leaving 'The Trauma Code' new seasons?
The decision comes after Ha Young was caught up in controversy over her great-grandfather's history during Japan's colonial rule of Korea.
Here's exactly what happened
The controversy began after Ha Young appeared on the popular variety show '
Problem Child in House.' During the program, she spoke about her family's four-generation history in medicine and mentioned her great-grandfather, Ahn Sang-ho. Korean netizens looked into her great-grandfather's historical background and identified him as Dr Ahn Sang-ho. He had been involved in pro-Japanese activities during the colonial period, which lasted from 1910 to 1945.
The actress' agency, BISTUS Entertainment, initially denied the allegations as 'groundless,' but later acknowledged that the historical records do exist.
Ha Young's apology
Following the backlash, Ha Young shared an apology note on Instagram. The actress said she had not fully understood her great-grandfather's history when she spoke about her family. She admitted to not knowing the exact facts before, 'which led to the agency releasing a statement claiming the reports were groundless.' Ha Young took responsibility for her actions and apologised to fans for causing trouble.
