HARARE, Aug. 26 (NewsDay Live) – The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has sought stronger support from the Foreign Affairs and International Trade ministry to ensure the smooth movement and welfare of national teams competing abroad.
ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi met Foreign Affairs and International Trade minister Amon Murwira on Tuesday, where he called for closer and more structured cooperation between the association and the ministry.
Magwizi said the national Under-15 team’s participation in the Under-15 World Cup in Azerbaijan in October was among upcoming international assignments requiring close coordination.
He said support from Zimbabwe’s diplomatic missions had already demonstrated the value of cooperation between sporting authorities and the ministry.
“We have seen the same support in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United States, where our ambassadors and embassy staff have been there to receive our teams and make sure that they are well taken care of,” Magwizi said.
He said ZIFA wanted the arrangement to continue and become more structured as Zimbabwean teams increasingly participate in international competitions.
“ZIFA will continue engaging the ministry to ensure Zimbabwean teams are adequately supported while abroad,” Magwizi said.
