Mighty Wanderers have suspended head coach Bob Mpinganjira with immediate effect, barely hours after the Nomads lost 2-1 to Ekhaya FC in the Airtel Top 8 final.
The match was played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday.
The club announced the decision in a statement signed by Board Secretary Chancy Gondwe.
However, Wanderers have not disclosed the reasons behind Mpinganjira’s suspension.
“The club announces the immediate suspension of Head Coach Mr. Bob Mpinganjira,” reads part of the statement.
Wanderers have also said they will announce an interim head coach within the next 48 hours.
The club further indicated that there could be changes to the composition of the technical panel.
Mpinganjira’s suspension comes after Wanderers failed to reclaim the Airtel Top 8 trophy.
Ekhaya, playing in the competition for the first time, beat the Nomads 2-1 to make history and lift the trophy.
The defeat ended Wanderers’ hopes of adding another Airtel Top 8 title to their collection.
The Nomads had reached the final after overcoming Blue Eagles in the semi-final.
