Businessman and Managing Director of Hotel Du Milano, Rotarian Bonaventure Iloabuchi Igboanugo, has been installed as the President of the Rotary Club of Revolution Lagos for the 2026/2027 Rotary Year.
Igboanugo was installed on Saturday at a ceremony attended by traditional rulers, captains of industry, government officials, Rotarians and other dignitaries.
He took over the leadership of the club from Rotarian Henry Obienu.
In his acceptance speech, Igboanugo said his emergence as president was not a privilege but a call to service, pledging to use his experience and networks to create sustainable impact in communities.
“I accept this responsibility not as a position of privilege, but as a call to service. My Rotary journey began in 2021, and since then, Rotary has become more than an organisation to me. It has become a family, a platform for leadership, fellowship and, most importantly, Service Above Self,” he said.
Igboanugo, a Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation, said his administration would focus on strengthening membership, expanding partnerships, improving fundraising and increasing the club’s presence and impact within communities.
Unveiling his theme for the Rotary year, “Create Lasting Impact — Within and Beyond,” the new president said his objective was to move beyond the organisation of activities to addressing real challenges and developing sustainable solutions.
“For me, this is more than a slogan. I want us to move beyond simply organising activities to solving real problems and creating sustainable solutions,” he said.
Igboanugo said his professional experience across business, hospitality, financial services, technology, investment and real estate had enhanced his understanding of leadership, collaboration and responsible resource management.
He added that his travels to more than 25 countries across different continents had exposed him to diverse cultures, economies and leadership environments, strengthening his conviction that people everywhere share a common need for dignity, opportunity and hope.
According to him, he would deploy his experience and networks, including through the Bona Leo Foundation, to establish meaningful partnerships and implement humanitarian projects during his tenure.
He identified healthcare, education, water and sanitation, youth development, economic empowerment and peace as priority areas for the club, stressing that projects would be selected based on their capacity to produce measurable and sustainable results.
The Rotary president urged members to contribute ideas and actively participate in the affairs of the club, calling for collective ownership of its programmes.
“Let there be no ‘my committee’ or ‘your committee.’ Let there be only: Our Club, Our Service, Our Impact,” he said.
Igboanugo pledged to lead with humility, accountability, collaboration and integrity, promising to listen, learn and deploy his energy, experience and relationships towards the success of his administration.
He said his performance would not be measured by the number of events organised or photographs taken, but by the tangible difference made in the lives of individuals and communities.
“At the end of this Rotary year, I do not want us to measure our success by the number of events we organised or photographs we took. I want us to look back and say: We united. We served. We empowered. We gave. We delivered. And we changed lives,” he said.
He also appealed to sponsors, partners, donors and friends of Rotary to support the club’s initiatives, noting that their contributions would help turn the administration’s vision into reality.
“Together, let us strengthen our Club. Together, let us serve our communities. Together, let us empower people. Together, let us build a legacy,” he said.
In his keynote address, medical doctor and Rotarian, Jide Akeredolu, highlighted the dangers of stress, describing it as a trigger for major ailments.
Akeredolu advised participants to adopt healthier ways of managing stress, stressing the importance of gratitude as one of the effective ways of maintaining wellbeing.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Rotarian Blessing David Oseghale, commended Igboanugo for his commitment to community service and impactful leadership.
Oseghale said the new president’s vision of “Create Lasting Impact” was a timely reminder of the responsibility of Rotarians to serve beyond themselves and the boundaries of their club.
“His vision of ‘Create Lasting Impact’ within and beyond is a timely reminder that our responsibility extends beyond ourselves and beyond the boundaries of the club,” he said.
