Skyface Explains Why He Removed His Mask After Fraudsters Misused His Name

According to GhanaWeb on Thursday, 29 October 2026, Ghanaian artiste Skyface has explained that he decided to stop wearing his trademark mask because some individuals were allegedly using his identity to engage in fraudulent activities.

The musician revealed that his decision was influenced by concerns about people taking advantage of his public image and popularity to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

For some time, Skyface was recognised for appearing in public and performing while wearing a mask. The covering became an important part of his image, helping him maintain a particular identity in the entertainment industry. However, he has now explained that the decision to remove it was connected to a problem that had become a source of concern for him.

According to the artiste, fraudsters were using his name and identity in ways that could mislead people. Such activities can create confusion among fans and members of the public, especially when individuals pretend to be celebrities to request money, make false promises or establish dishonest relationships with unsuspecting people.

The situation reportedly influenced Skyface to reconsider his decision to conceal his face. By appearing without the mask, he could make it easier for people to recognise him and distinguish his genuine identity from individuals who might be pretending to represent him.

Identity misuse has become a concern for many public figures, particularly those who have large followings on social media. Fraudsters sometimes create fake accounts, use photographs of popular personalities and contact their supporters with misleading information. In some cases, victims only discover the deception after losing money or sharing personal information.

For musicians, protecting their public image is important because their relationship with fans is built on trust. When people impersonate an artiste, it can damage that relationship and create problems for the individual whose identity is being misused.

Skyface’s explanation therefore provides insight into the reason behind his decision to remove a feature that had become closely associated with his public appearance. Rather than simply changing his fashion style, the decision was linked to concerns about protecting his identity and preventing further confusion.

His revelation also serves as a reminder to fans to remain careful when communicating with people claiming to be celebrities online. Supporters should verify suspicious accounts and avoid sending money or personal information to individuals whose identities have not been confirmed.

As Skyface continues his music career, his decision to appear without the mask represents a change in his public image. His explanation has also opened a wider conversation about impersonation and the challenges entertainers face in protecting their identities.
