The Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has rejected claims that the party’s First Vice Chairman, Kojo Fosu Boadu, also known as Kojo Bamba, previously served as his driver and bodyguard.
Mr Boakye explained that Mr Bamba was responsible for operations and security during his tenure as National Youth Organiser and later as National Organiser of the party.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, he said the two had worked together for more than a decade and expressed confidence in Mr Bamba’s competence.
“I have heard a lot of narratives that he was my driver; he was my bodyguard. He was never my driver. He was never my bodyguard,” he said.
“I rather appointed him to be in charge of the national youth wing’s operations and security. And again, when I was National Organiser, I appointed him again to be in charge of operations and security at the office of the National Organiser,” he added.
Mr Boakye attributed Mr Bamba’s election as First Vice Chairman partly to his experience and campaign message, saying the outcome did not surprise him.
He also dismissed concerns that their previous working relationship could affect their ability to function effectively in their current positions, insisting that cooperation among the party’s leadership was essential.
“What is important is for us to work together. And as I said, we have already worked together for 10 years and we’ve had some results,” he said.
Describing Mr Bamba as experienced and capable, Mr Boakye said he believed his colleague would make a significant contribution to the NPP’s bid to regain power in the 2028 general elections.
“I believe that he is going to add something very unique to our quest to recapture power in 2028,” he added.
Mr Bamba was elected First Vice Chairman at the NPP’s national executive elections in Kumasi on October 3. He secured 3,116 votes to defeat 12 other candidates.
His election has, however, drawn criticism over his reported links to the Delta Force vigilante group.
