The North East Development Commission (NEDC) in partnership with the Adamawa Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) has distributed fertiliser to 21 cooperative societies across Adamawa State as part of efforts to boost agricultural production and support smallholder farmers.
The intervention aligns with Leadership in Agriculture, the second pillar of the NEDC Master Plan, which seeks to strengthen agricultural development, increase food production and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the North-East.
The NEDC State Coordinator in Adamawa, Barrister Khalifa Muhammad Lawan, formally handed over the farm inputs to representatives of the designated cooperative societies for onward distribution to needy and vulnerable farmers in their respective communities.
Lawan said the intervention was designed to increase crop production, support farming activities and cushion the impact of rising agricultural input costs on farmers.
He cautioned leaders of the beneficiary cooperatives against selling, diverting or misusing the fertiliser, stressing that the inputs must reach the intended beneficiaries and be used strictly for agricultural purposes.
Receiving the commodities on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Programme Manager of the Adamawa Agricultural Development Programme, Hajia Halima Muhammed, expressed appreciation to the NEDC for the timely intervention.
She assured the Commission that the ADP would work closely with the NEDC to monitor the distribution process and ensure that the fertiliser is judiciously utilised to achieve the intended agricultural objectives.
The intervention is expected to provide much-needed support to farmers, improve productivity and contribute to food security across Adamawa State.
