The Rat' is Yu-min (Park Yoon-ho), Moon-jae's old college friend. Moon-jae was jealous of Yu-min and slowly took away everything that mattered to him. He pushed Yu-min's girlfriend toward suicide and stole his writing to build his own career as an author. This ultimately pushed Moon-jae's friend to seek revenge against him for ruining his life.
In the final episode, Yu-min confronts Moon-jae and finally reveals the truth about everything that happened all those years ago. The confrontation forces Moon-jae to face the reality of his actions and everything he had buried in his mind. The two eventually get into a physical fight, with Moon-jae pushing Yu-min over the edge of the ferry and into the ocean. Now Yu-min is dead; Moon-jae returns to his old life. He gets back into his new apartment and even finds a deadline waiting for his next book, 'The Rat - Part Two.'
But Yu-min has left him with one final problem. Moon-jae now knows the truth about what he did and how he destroyed other people's lives. Even worse, Yu-min left behind a manuscript detailing Moon-jae's crimes. As a result, Moon-jae is now forced to rewrite the book himself. But here's the twist - he has never truly written anything on his own. His entire career was built on stealing Yu-min's work, and now he has nothing to fall back on.
