Liberia: Johnbertha Foundation Launches LD$558,000 Scholarship Fund For 60 Montserrado Students

MONROVIA — The Johnbertha Foundation has launched a LD$558,000 educational scholarship and financial aid program to support 60 students from Montserrado County’s Districts #15 and #17 during the 2026/2027 academic year.

The initiative, launched on September 18, followed the receipt of 148 applications, from which 60 beneficiaries were selected through what the Foundation described as a transparent and impartial vetting process.

Under the program, the Foundation, headed by Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Alberta D. Cummings, will cover 100 percent of the applicable school fees of the selected students.

The Foundation said the initiative is intended to help vulnerable students remain in school amid financial challenges confronting families, including school fees, transportation costs, textbooks, uniforms and other educational expenses.

“Supporting a student involves more than paying school fees; it helps preserve a dream, reduce financial pressure on a family, and contribute to the future development of a community,” the Foundation said.

The Foundation urged parents and guardians to prioritize their children’s education and provide the necessary support at home, including monitoring school attendance, assisting with homework and maintaining communication with teachers.

It also appealed to philanthropists, private institutions, humanitarian organizations, development partners, businesses and well-meaning Liberians at home and abroad to support similar educational initiatives.

According to the Foundation, sustained investment in education requires collaboration among government, schools, civil society organizations, families, communities and development partners.

It further called on the national government to increase support for scholarships, learning materials, teacher assistance, school infrastructure and programs targeting vulnerable students.

The 60 beneficiaries were encouraged to attend school regularly, study diligently, respect teachers and remain committed to their education. The Foundation said its scholarship initiative is guided by its motto, “We Rise by Lifting Others” and reaffirmed its commitment to educational empowerment and humanitarian service.
