Fernando Da Cruz Praises Chiefs’ First-Half Display After Derby Defeat

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has praised his players’ first-half performance despite their defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby, while encouraging the team to remain patient and ambitious.

The French tactician believes there were positive aspects of Chiefs’ display before the break, even though the team eventually failed to get the desired result against their biggest rivals.

The defeat will be disappointing for the Amakhosi supporters, who had hoped to see their team secure a positive outcome in one of South African football’s most important fixtures. However, Da Cruz has chosen to focus on the encouraging moments from the encounter rather than allowing the result to overshadow the team’s progress.

His message to the players centred on the importance of maintaining belief in the process while continuing to work towards the club’s objectives. The coach wants his squad to understand that improvement requires patience, commitment and consistency, particularly during difficult periods.

The Soweto Derby provided another demanding test for Chiefs, who were unable to turn their first-half performance into a result. Facing Orlando Pirates also meant dealing with the pressure and expectations that come with the historic rivalry.

For Da Cruz, the challenge now is to help his players learn from the disappointment and carry the positive elements of their performance into their next fixtures.

Chiefs will need to improve their overall consistency if they are to compete effectively in the Betway Premiership. Their supporters will also be expecting a response as the team looks to return to winning ways.

Despite the setback, Da Cruz’s comments suggest that he remains focused on building a team capable of meeting the club’s ambitions rather than making decisions based solely on one disappointing result.
