Afreximbank’s multi-million-dollar Harare trade centre nears completion

THE African Export-Import Bank’s (Afreximbank) multi-million dollar Southern Africa Regional Office and trade hub construction work in Harare is at an advanced stage, with completion set for the first quarter of 2027.

The One Stop Centre for trade information, facilitation and services, located at the corner of Herbert Chitepo Avenue and 7th Street, Greenwood Park, where construction is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2027.

The bank’s regional director for Southern Africa, Peter Olowononi said in a statement this Friday that office space is now being marketed and prospective tenants have been invited to submit expressions of interest.

Situated on a 15,000m² prime site near the city centre, the 31,256m² mixed-use development will feature a seven-storey corporate office tower, a three-storey conference and exhibition centre, a ten-storey four-star business hotel with 118 rooms, and a basement parking level.

The hotel will comprise two restaurants and a rooftop infinity pool, while the conference centre will accommodate up to 550 guests.

The office tower will house Afreximbank’s corporate offices and about 4,478m² of Grade A lettable space across four floors for selected tenants.

The facility is also set to have meeting rooms, a members’ gym and wellness centre, retail kiosks, ATMs and a coffee shop, built with sustainable design principles and expected to be one of Harare’s green-certified buildings.

According to Afreximbank, the Harare AATC will serve as a one-stop centre for trade information, facilitation and services, and will form part of a network of at least eight Bank-owned AATCs across Africa and the Caribbean.

“The building’s contemporary architectural design is intended to create a landmark that reflects Afreximbank’s mission to promote intra-African trade,” Olowononi said.

The design is inspired by pre-colonial trade and the traditional bazaar, translating the exchange of people, goods, knowledge and ideas into an active internal street, central courtyard and interconnected spaces.

Construction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027. Office space is now being marketed, and prospective tenants have been invited to submit expressions of interest.
