France’s top court confirms Achraf Hakimi will stand trial on rape charge

France’s highest court on Wednesday confirmed that Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi will stand trial on a rape charge, rejecting his challenge to an earlier ruling sending the case before a criminal court.

The Versailles Court of Appeal had upheld the referral in June over allegations that Hakimi raped a woman in 2023. Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain and captains Morocco, has denied the allegation throughout the proceedings.

The case dates to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman told police that Hakimi had raped her at his home after the two met through Instagram.

She alleged that Hakimi kissed and touched her without consent before raping her. Hakimi has denied wrongdoing.
